Card Sketch #141 – Painted Petals

Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 141 sample created by design team member, Pam Staples. Card features the Painted Petals Stamp Set. #stampinup #paintedpetals #sunnygirlscraps #pamstaplesI love this weeks sketch from the Paper Craft Crew featuring a small twist on a traditional style sketch.  You have the three squares which I consider a classic style but the added element at the bottom with the 3 small elements puts a nice little spin on the classic sketch finished off with the Sentiment located just above and on the left-hand side of the squares.

When I was planning my card, I immediately thought the Painted Petals Stamp Set would be perfect especially with the coordinating Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  The Painted Petals Stamp Set really is an awesome stamp set.  I also can't say enough about the GORGEOUS Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.   You'll see that at the base of the card, I used a strip of the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper then added three So Saffron Candy Dots placed just below the third square.  The squares feature a tulip motif using one of the stamps from teh Painted Petals Stamp Set.  I actually used the Strawberry Slush and I'm surprised at how nicely it coordinates with the Rose Red found in the Designer Series Paper.

PCCCS 140: Starburst Sayings Baby Card

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge and I'm featuring an adorable Starburst Sayings Baby Card!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Tuesday, April 21st at 11:55 PM EST with voting on submissions starting.  Voting on submissions ends on Monday, April 27th at 8:00 PM EST.

Paper Craft Crew Challenge

Starburst Sayings Baby Card

Card Sketch #140

Handmade baby card by Pam Staples created for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 140 using the Starburst Sayings Stamp Set. #stampinup #sunnygirlscraps #pamstaples

This is a fun sketch that we have over at the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketches.  I decided that the Starburst Sayings Stamp Set was perfect but I really wanted a baby card so I transformed my card into the Starburst Sayings Baby Card.  I love the little clouds from the Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper and knew it was perfect as the backdrop for this card.  Of course, having a baby is often a very happy occasion so I decided to use the "Oh Happy Day" stamp from the Starburst Sayings Stamp set but conveniently hid the "Day" using the So Saffron banner based of this weeks Card Sketch.  The Celebrate was also perfect to use from the Starburst Sayings Stamp Set.  Finally, the Banner Banter Stamp set was perfect for the banners and the "Cute Baby" banner sets the tone for the Baby Card but I hid the "Cute" because I didn't want it part of the card.  Oh… But wait!  There is more.  I decided to add the Candy Dots to complete the card.

Handmade baby card by Pam Staples created for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 140 using the Starburst Sayings Stamp Set. #stampinup #sunnygirlscraps #pamstaplesOriginally, I thought I would create a monochromatic card but it just wasn't working so finally I settled on a combination of Lost Lagoon, So Saffron and Smoky Slate which I thought was a nice color palette for a Boy Baby Card.

Sunny Girl Scraps Tips, Tricks & More:

  • It is always a great idea to have a few Baby Cards on hand throughout the year so go ahead and create a baby card today.
  • Have fun and try to find different sets you may not use initially for a baby card.  The Starburst Sayings Stamp Set really was perfect for this card.
  • The Designer Series Paper offered by Stampin' Up! is great and so versatile!

    • Use Designer Series Paper for scrapbook pages,
    • Project Life
    • Handmade Cards… Great for backgrounds!
    • Designer Series Paper works great for 3D projects such as boxes.

RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour – Get Moving

Welcome to this months RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour!  On the 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 8 PM EST, we feature a new theme.  We invite you to also check out our Pinterest Pages to see additional ideas so you definitely want to "Like" my Pinterest Page.

This months theme is Get Moving!  So, welcome to the APRIL 2015 RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour!

RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour

Get Moving

OK… You might be thinking what does one create for a "Get Moving" themed card!  The theme is broad and within our group we defined it as anything sports related, a card that moves, new address, new home, modes of transportation or anything related to movement.  My first project features a Shaker Card – you have to shake it and the pieces inside move.  The second project is in honor of my parents and their love of travel especially as they are snow birds living in the south while the weather in Minnesota is snowy, chilly and cold!

Project #1 – Balloon Shaker Card

Remarkables Blog Tour - Get Moving featuring a Balloon Shaker Card by Pam Staples

So, I have a confession… This is my first shaker card ever!  It may not be the fanciest or most elaborate shaker card but it works.  I actually stamped the lower layer for the shaker then the top layer with 1 3/8" circle punch.  The Stampin' Up! Shaker Frames are awesome and make it so easy to create a shaker.  Inside my shaker, I added some glitter and Bermuda Bay Sequins.  It is sparkly and fun!  Other than having to do the shaker twice because I attached the wrong piece upside down, it was much easier than I expected.  If you haven't made a Shaker Card before I really recommend that you give it a try!  It isn't nearly as difficult as it looks.

0415-Get Moving001

The color scheme features Hello Honey and Bermuda Bay.  The balloon is stamped with the Hello Honey and I made the tail of the balloon with the Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim.  At the base of the card, I used some of the Natural Chevron Ribbon and stapled it to the card front with the Stampin' Up! stapler.  The flag is Hello Honey Cardstock stamped with the "Woo-Hoo" from the Bravo Stamp Set with Hello Honey Classic Ink.  Finally, the stars finish off the card with a nice triangular effect for drawing the eye around the various elements of the card.  I actually think this is a great masculine card.

Project #2 – Live to Travel

0415-Get Moving006

For my second card, I'm actually featuring a Project Life Stamp Set called Let's Get Away.  My parents love to travel during the Winter months in their 5th Wheel Travel Trailer.  This winter they enjoyed visiting my dad's oldest nephew near Maricopa, AZ as well as visiting my In-Laws that live in Tucson, AZ.  They stayed in AZ for a month then they head back east towards San Antonio, TX in the Hill Country which is another area they really enjoy visiting and have made lots of friends over the years.  At this time, they are slowly making their way home to Minnesota then sometime in mid-May they will make their way up to Nevis, MN where they will stay for most of the summer.

0415-Get Moving004

For this card, I used the Gorgeous Grunge for the background featuring Old Olive, Hello Honey and Calypso Coral.  I also added an "arrow" stamp that actually looks like 3 little evergreen trees.  I stamped teh "To Live is to Travel" with the Calypso Coral then added the car pulling the camper with Basic Black.  As extra interest and a natural look, I added the linen thread to the background.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers!

PCCCS 139: Showing MOM some LOVE

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends at 11:55 PM EST on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with voting starting.  The voting ends on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 8:00 PM EST.

Card Sketch #139 – Showing MOM some LOVE!

Mother's Love

PCCCS138-Pam006

Now that we are past Easter it is time to start thinking of some additional celebrations that will soon be arriving such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduations and other special occasions such as Spring Weddings.  This card is a that would be great for Mother's Day but could also be used to show appreciation for mom anytime of the year – so, how are you showing MOM some LOVE?  The Mothers Love Stamp Set is the perfect stamp set for creating a card and showing MOM some love…  show her how much you appreciate all that she does for your throughout the year!

I really love this weeks sketch even if I did take some liberties and switched some elements around and also eliminated some items.  My plan was to use the oval with the scallop oval but then I really wanted to use the Mother's Love with the sentiment overlapping the stamped image and that is what finally one me over on my completed card.  The color combination of Old Olive, Hello Honey and Calypso Coral are fresh, and just feel like spring.  I love the pop of Calypso Coral with the added Seam Binding Ribbon.

PCCCS138-Pam004

Sunny Girl Scraps Tips, Tricks and more:

  • To help with the overall color balance of the card, I added the Hello Yellow background border which also helps the individual "see" the Butterflies and the stamped floral image in the background behind the sentiment.
  • Each butterfly has pearls to create the feeling of the butterfly body.
  • The image behind the sentiment was stamped off to help lighten the colors and to make certain the sentiment "popped."
  • Dry embossing is an easy way to add texture and interest to a card.
  • Square card are fun to make!

SUOC #120 – Support Your Team

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with the theme "Support Your Team."  Come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on Saturday, April 18th at 6:00 AM EST.

SUO Challenge #120

Support Your Team

Support Your TeamThis is a fun, but somewhat challenging theme for our current challenge from the SUO Challenges Blog.  I had a few ideas but decided to stick with a "team" theme and created this card featuring my Alma Mater…  Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.  There is a bit of a back story here that is important for most people not familiar with Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.  The school mascot is a Corn Cob so students are called a Cobber or Cobbers.  A bit of history… In the early days of Concordia College, the school catered to lots of farmers and during harvest season the students went home to help their families with the harvest which was often Corn.  The other local college used a derogatory term for these farmers calling them "Cobs."  Over time, the term "Cobs" evolved into Cobber / Cobbers.  Being proud of their farming history, Concordia embraced the term "Cob."

SUOC120-Pam001

Now that you understand my College background, here is my card for the "Support Your Team" SUO Challenge.  I used the Little Letters Thinlits to cut out the "Cobber" then added the Designer Paper background.  Above the "Cobber," I added the star with a banner and stamped the "GO" from the Bravo Stamp Set.  The Concordia College, Moorhead MN school colors are Maroon & Gold.  The closest I could come to the Maroon was using Cherry Cobbler which is surprisingly close to the Maroon for Concordia.

Sunny Girl Scraps Tips, Tricks and More:

  • This card could work for any team… Just change the cut out letters to your school mascot and change the school colors.
  • The stars add some pizzazz and make a nice statement – You are a Star!
  • Use sequins to add a little neutral bling.
  • The embossing folder adds nice texture to the card.

Go Cobber!  Show your spirit today and "Support Your Team" by creating a fun themed card.   Don't forget to visit the SUO! Challenges Blog to check out the creations from the other Design Team members!

Well, since we are on the topic of "Support Your Team" I was actually watching the College Basketball Championship game between Duke and Wisconsin.  I'll admit that I was cheering for both teams to some extent (well, maybe a little more for Duke) but I would have been happy to see either team win.  Since I live in North Carolina now, I was cheering for Duke.  BUT… I'm from Minnesota and although Wisconsin is a rival the fact that they had not been to the Championship game since something like the 1940's and were the underdog, on some level I was hoping they would win.  I have to say it was a good game and congratulations to Duke on their 5th Championship Win.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

FREE SHIPPING April 6-10, No Minimum Purchase Required – Limited Time Offer from Stampin’ Up!

Well, my family had a wonderful and very short weekend visiting Myrtle Beach.  We left on Thursday night and returned home late afternoon on Saturday.  Our sweet, wonderful 5 year old is definitely a BEACH BOY!  He was so excited about going to the beach and thankfully we had a gorgeous day on Friday.  We spent a good 6 hours on the beach and the boy did not stop moving!  He was in the water then running after the birds and walking up along the beach.  It was fun seeing how excited Caleb was to be at the beach.  That evening, after pulling our son away from the beach, we enjoyed the Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show.  Caleb was totally enthralled with the show and we all enjoyed ourselves.  I certainly wish we had stayed an extra day.

On that note…  I have a VERY IMPORTANT announcement!

Card Sketch #138 – Kinda Eclectic Easter Card

Kinda Eclectic Easter Card created for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 138 by Pam Staples. #stampinup #papercraftcrew #kindaeclectic #eastercard

Welcome to the last challenge before Easter Sunday!  I love how this card turned out…  When I look at it I think of Easter Morning Sunrise with the SUN rising, the branch and a beautiful butterfly symbolizing rebirth.  Spring is my favorite season and this card just makes me so happy.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!  I really do love the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set and how versatile it is to use.

Sunny Girl Scraps TIps, Tricks and more:

  • Create a "Polaroid" frame by cutting a rectangular shape then use the Square Framelits to cut out the center.
  • The Kinda Eclectic "Sun" stamp is great for highlighting and creating focal points.
  • A great way to create interest and a focal point is layering.
  • Finish the details with Pearls
  • Create layers using Dimensionals (I love Stampin' Dimensionals!)
