CYCI83: No Bones About It going Back To School Edition

It’s Sunday and you know what that means… I’m over at the Can You Case It Challenge Blog for the Weekly Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks challenge as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Friday, August 28, 2015 @ Noon PST.

Can You Case It

Theme Challenge CYCI#83

No Bones About It handmade by Pam Staples, www.sunnygirlscraps.com, for the Can You Case It Theme Challenge. Yep, No Bones About It as kids are going Back To School. #stampinup #backtoschool #nobonesaboutit #sunnygirlscraps

The Can You Case It Design Team has a really fun challenge for you this week!  Many kids are getting ready or have already started school.  This year Caleb starts Kindergarten!  He is very excited about going back to school and we’ve been trying to get him ready earlier this summer by driving past his new school as well as reminding him he’ll be making new friends.  I can’t believe where the time has gone.  Caleb loved going to Preschool and since he has special needs in one sense I don’t think this will be a difficult transition other than he is at a new elementary school, recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant and there will be no classmates from his old school.

We’ve already had a bit of confusion about when Caleb starts but we finally have some details.  I was originally told he did not need to attend the Kindergarten Assessment on 8/24 so planned my vacation with the intent of going to the Minnesota State Fair (because NOTHING but maybe the Texas State Fair compares) but now I’ll have to miss the Minnesota State Fair by ONE DAY!  We will need to leave Minnesota on Wednesday and start our 2 to 3 day trek home so we can get Caleb in for his Kindergarten Assessment before school starts for him on September 3rd!

Since Caleb has special needs, he’ll have 2 teachers and I have no idea how many Teacher’s Assistants will be added to the mix but I’m assuming at least 2 Teacher’s Assistants.  So, today’s Back To School theme gets me started!  I love this adorable card featuring the No Bones About It Stamp Set which is perfect for a Kindergartner.

No Bones About it kids are going Back to School. Handmade card by Pam Staples and more information available at www.sunnygirlscraps.com. #stampinup #sunnygirlscraps #cyci #nobonesaboutitThe card base is the Thick Whisper White which I just LOVE.  To set the tone for the card, I started by stamping the background with the Writing Notes Background Stamp using Tempting Turquoise Classic Ink.  I love the whimsical nature of this “lined” note base. Next, I used the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set for the Real Red and Smoky Slate blobs.  The sentiment layer is stamped with Bermuda Bay Classic Ink on Whisper White and layered with Real Red cardstock.  Behind the sentiment I added a Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay banner using the Banner Punch then added the Linen Thread.  The dinosaur is from the No Bones About It Stamp Set and he is stamped with the Smoky Slate.  I’m not one to do a lot of fussy cutting but on occasion it is a must so I cut out the dinosaur and attached him to the front of the card.  The final touch was the Brights Designer Button with a Linen Thread bow.  I’m thinking his Special Needs teacher, Miss Gerrell will really love this card.

Card Sketch #158 – Peaceful Pines

Peaceful Pines handmade card by Pam Staples. www.sunnygirlscraps.com #stampinup #sunnygirlscraps #papercraftcrew #peacefulpines

As soon as I saw the Peaceful Pines stamp set in the NEW 2015 Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog, I just had to preorder this set.  I love how it has coordinating framelits.  I was even getting into the holiday spirit while making this card.  Yesterday and today are very cold here in Northern Minnesota.  Today, I'm having a few of the campground ladies over to do some stamping but our stamping space is a covered porch and I made this card yesterday while it was raining and chilly.  It also seems my blood has thinned a bit and my MN blood is a little weak so I didn't last very long outside.

So for the card, I started with a card front of Crumb Cake layered with Whisper White which I dry embossed using the NEW Softly Falling Texture Impressions Embossing Folder…  You just MUST get this amazing Embossing Folder!  Then, I added another layer of Crumb Cake and Whisper White but this time I stamped on the Whisper White with  Pool Party Classic Ink to create a feel of sky and snow.  This was attached to the card front with a piece of Gold 1/8" Ribbon.

Using the Peaceful Pines stamp set, I stamped the pine tree using Mossy Meadow with the base of the pine tree stamped with Early Espresso then the star with Hello Honey and the presents are stamped using Real Red.  It is so awesome to use the coordinating Perfect Pines Framelits Dies to cut out the Peaceful Pines stamped images.

SUOC #129 – The Wilderness Awaits

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with our theme being a Card without Words.  We invite you to come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on Saturday, August 29th at 6 AM EST.

SUO Challenge #129

SUOC129-Pam002The Wilderness Awaits Stamp Set is one of the NEW Stampin' Up! Stamp Sets that I absolutely love.  Growing up, we traveled a lot as a family which really instilled within me a love of the outdoors, wildlife and nature.  The Wilderness Awaits stamp set just really stands out for me.  This card came together much better than I could have envisioned and I'm already planning to give it to a close family friend that is dying from Pancreatic Cancer.

Our family friend, Bob, has been battling Pancreatic Cancer for over a year and last September everything was looking fairly good but now this summer it was discovered that the cancer had spread to his intestines.  Just before I arrived in Minnesota at the end of July, Bob, was informed that without Chemo he had about 2 months to live and with Chemo he might live to Christmas.  He and his family decided to proceed with the Chemo.  If the Chemo shrinks the cancer just a little then they will continue with the treatment, keep him comfortable and pray that he makes it to or through Christmas.

Just a little about Bob…  Bob is like a 2nd Dad to me.  He and my dad have been best friends since I was a twinkle of a thought to my parents.  My parents meet Bob and his wife when they first moved to Bloomington, MN and lived in an Apartment.  They were apartment neighbors.  Bob and my dad have often enjoyed hunting together, fishing, camping and the outdoors in general.  Bob and Mary are also neighbors at the seasonal campground.  Back to The Wilderness Awaits card…  this is the type of card that I know Bob would enjoy so I'm actually inviting other Seasonal Campers to sign the card and then I'll be giving it to Bob before I leave Minnesota to head back home for North Carolina.  In the meantime, I hope the card will bring a little cheer to Bob and I also pray that he'll be able to go to the lake one more time in September.

The card front starts with a layer of Crumb Cake then a layer of Whisper White stamped with Crumb Cake Classic Ink featuring the Hardwood background stamp.  Next, I created a banner featuring the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack.  The banner is created using the Banner Triple Punch. I choose to stamp the elk image from The Wilderness Awaits stamp set with Early Espresso Classic Ink.  Masculine cards are always a little more challenging when using embellishments and I just love using the 1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon and 5/8" Chevron Ribbon attached with a Staple – great for masculine cards.  The neutral designer button with the linen thread are the finishing touch to creating a perfect masculine card.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

RemARKable Blog Tour – Any Bundle featuring Vintage Leaves Bundle All Boxed Up

Welcome to this months RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour!  On the 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 8 PM EST, we feature a new theme.  We invite you to also check out our Pinterest Pages to see additional ideas so you definitely want to "Like" my Pinterest Page.

This months theme is ANY BUNDLE!  So, welcome to the August 2015 RemARKable Blog Tour as I feature the Vintage Leaves Bundle as my "Any Bundle!"

RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour

Vintage Leaves Bundle

The Vintage Leaves Bundle is gorgeous and I fell in love with this bundle when I saw it in the 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.  It features the gorgeous Vintage Leaves with the coordinating Leaflets Framelits.  I wasn't originally thinking of featuring this set though, at least not yet, but the opportunity arose and I ran with it!

I've been in Minnesota since the 1st of August, while visiting with a close friend and mentor she pulled out a card then asked if I could recreate the card.  As luck would have it, I had brought that stamp set with me and knew I had the supplies with just some minor variations to the original card since it had some retired product on it.  Now, the card doesn't feature a bundle but the story only begins there.

In mid-July, our son Caleb was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance and we've switched him to a Gluten Free diet.  My friend and mentor, Ellie, made Caleb Gluten Free brownies.  Ellie insisted on paying $5.00 per card for the basic card that I made her even though I wanted to give her a discount.  Ellie has been a life-long friend.  While making the cards, I had an idea to create a beautiful box to hold the cards and the Vintage Leaves Bundle was the perfect topper for the box.

Vintage Leaves Bundle on a Box

Remarkables1508-Pam001

Remarkables1508-Pam001

The box base is Crumb Cake and the cover is made using the Early Espresso Neutrals Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stacks.  I love this Designer Series Paper Stack with the writing.  The box is large  enough to hold 6 standard A4 Cards with envelopes.  When I make my boxes, I basically figure what I need for the middle section to hold what I'll be placing in the box then based on the paper size, I calculate my sides.  For Card boxes, I like to have the sides be about 2" tall.

Ellie has severe arthritis, so she cannot tie ribbon so as much as I wanted to wrap a ribbon around the box I managed to keep myself in check.  I started with a Whisper White Banner created using the Triple Banner Punch – LOVE THIS PUNCH!  Using the Vintage Leaves stamp set I stamped the leaves using Old Olive, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry Classic Ink then I used the coordinating bundled product, Leaflets Framelits, to cut out the leaves.

Remarkables1508-Pam001For placement on the box, I started by layering the large Maple Leaf and Oak Leaf on top of the banner then I took the Linen Thread and added that to the box front then I added the third leaf which I think is an Aspen leaf.  The "Hello" is the finishing touch to the box front and cut out of Crumb Cake cardstock using another favorite product of mine which is the Greetings Thinlits.

Right before I left to head to the lake in Northern Minnesota, I stopped over at Ellie's house to deliver the finished cards with the Vintage Leaves Bundle Box.  Ellie absolutely LOVED the cards and the box.  In fact, she loved the box so much that she has ordered 6 more boxes from me to hold Mini-Loaves of Bread that she bakes for family at Thanksgiving.  The Mini-Loaf boxes will be a tad smaller and feature the "Thanks" for Thanksgiving.  Now I just need to carve out some craft time while I'm at the lake in Northern Minnesota!  And… Yes, I DID lug 1/2 of my craft supplies up to the lake much to my Dad's chagrin!

Here are the cards that are inside of the box featuring the Lovely As a Tree stamp set (which I FINALLY bought right before my trip to Minnesota!).

 Card Sketch #157

PCCCS157-Pam001-2

Handmade Card created by Pam Staples for the Paper Craft Crew Design Team. Card Sketch Challenge 157. #stampinup #papercraftcrew #sunnygirlscraps #thankfulforestfriends

I have a cute Sneak Peek for you this week featuring the Thankful Forest Friends Stamp Set and the Into the Woods Designer Series Paper.  This weeks Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch was lots of fun and was perfect for this card.  Since I'm in Northern MN enjoying the lake surrounded by all sorts of Wildlife, this is also a fun card.  I love the whimsical feel of this stamp set and focused on the Thankful for You as the sentiment.

PCCCS157-Pam003

Making square shape cards can be lots of fun and create a new challenge especially if you never made one before just remember they cost a little extra to mail.  For the tag, based off the sketch, I used the Triple Banner Punch on the Soft Suede Card Stock.  The cute fox is stamped with Cajun Craze Classic Ink then I fussy cut him out.  Two little Candy Dots in the Cajun Craze finish out my "banner tag."  Based on the sketch I added the button with some Linen Thread.  If you look closely, you'll also notice I wrapped linen thread around the acorn Designer Series Paper ("DSP").

Love this fun card which is so versatile and I can't say enough how adorable the Thankful Forest Friends Stamp Set is along with the Into the Woods Designer Series Paper.  Whimsical, fun, masculine, neutral… It works for lots of different situations.

CYCI081: Watercolor Words

It's Sunday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Can You Case It Challenge Blog for the Weekly Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks color challenge as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Friday, August 14th @ Noon PST.

Can You Case It

Color Challenge CYCI#81

Can You Case It Color Challenge 81 Design Team submission created by Pam Staples, SunnyGirlScraps, featuring the Watercolor Words Stamp Set. #sunnygirlscraps #stampinup #watercolorwords #pamstaples

The moment I saw the Watercolor Words Stamp Set in the 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog I just HAD to have it!  I love this stamp set but haven't played with it until now.  This weeks Color Challenge from Can You Case It really spoke to me telling me it was time to utilize this stamp set.  I love the way this card turned out.

For the color challenge, we needed to use a Blue, Green and Purple of our choice.  I decided to use Pear Pizzazz for my Green, Pool Party for my Blue and Blackberry Bliss for my Purple.  The Blackberry Bliss was the perfect compliment to the softer colors of the Pear Pizzazz and Pool Party.  On the card front, I stamped the flowers using the Pool Party but I wanted the flowers to be really soft so I stamped off the color first then stamped the image on the Whisper White card front and I also did the same thing with the Pear Pizzazz leaves.  The sentiment is stamped over the flowers using the Blackberry Bliss for a bold statement that strikingly shows up against the background of flowers.

The small accent on the card front features a Silver Basic Button tied with a piece of Linen Thread.  Tied to the linen thread is also a small piece of Pear Pizzazz 1/4" Cotton Ribbon.   I then attached the card front to a base of the Pool Party Schoolhouse Designer Series Paper which I attached to the Whisper White card base.

Card Sketch #156 – Cozy Christmas

PCCCS153-Pam001-3

I'm excited to be sharing one of my favorite products from the NEW Holiday Catalog that will be available to order from on September 1, 2015.  There is so much to love in this catalog and I've really fallen in love with the Cozy Christmas and Home For Christmas Designer Series Paper.  The paper has a wonderful vintage feel and is easy to create with and the Cozy Christmas has lots to offer the paper crafter as we start thinking of making those Christmas Cards.

I just love the music sheets from the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper which features the song, Silent Night.  Silent Night is my absolute favorite Christmas Hymn and I used to sing it to my son all the time when he was a baby.  Now he has started to sing it with me.  Caleb definitely has a love of music and singning.  This past Christmas we purchased him a Karaoke Machine which he loves to play with and sing into the microphone.

The card features the Cozy Christmas with a Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper background placed on a piece of Mint Macaroon Cardstock.  The accent colors are Cherry Cobbler and the Mint Macaroon.  I love the colors together for a crisp and modern take on Christmas while keeping a very traditional feel.  Another new product that I used are the Iced Rhinestone Embellishments.  The Ice Rhinestone Embellishments are AMAZING and so sparkly!  They just catch the light and YOU must order some as soon as you can.

I'm back from the Inspire, Create, Share 2015 Stampin' Up! Convention.  I had a wonderful time and cannot wait to share the 2015 Holiday Catalog with you.  My pre-preorder has been placed but I won't see my goodies until I arrive in Minnesota where I'll be enjoying the month of August up at the lake with my son, Caleb, as we hang out with Grandma & Grandpa.

For this Paper Craft Crew Challenge, I've used the Sprinkles of Life stamp set and created this Happy Birthday Card.  I'm going to be giving this card to my husband although I'm about a week late – Oops!  Enjoy.
