Card Sketch #138 – Kinda Eclectic Easter Card

Kinda Eclectic Easter Card created for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 138 by Pam Staples. #stampinup #papercraftcrew #kindaeclectic #eastercard

Welcome to the last challenge before Easter Sunday!  I love how this card turned out…  When I look at it I think of Easter Morning Sunrise with the SUN rising, the branch and a beautiful butterfly symbolizing rebirth.  Spring is my favorite season and this card just makes me so happy.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!  I really do love the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set and how versatile it is to use.

Sunny Girl Scraps TIps, Tricks and more:

  • Create a "Polaroid" frame by cutting a rectangular shape then use the Square Framelits to cut out the center.
  • The Kinda Eclectic "Sun" stamp is great for highlighting and creating focal points.
  • A great way to create interest and a focal point is layering.
  • Finish the details with Pearls
  • Create layers using Dimensionals (I love Stampin' Dimensionals!)

3D Thursday Video – Paper Crafted Peony with the Bouquet Bigz L Die

One of my absolute favorite flowers is the Peony.  I've always loved them because of their size and delicate appearance as well as the multitude of colors.  When I was planning my wedding, I insisted on having a bouquet filled with Peonies and Calla Lilies.  It was gorgeous and I really wish I had a photo handy at the moment to share with you.

I didn't originally set out to create a peony exactly but as I was playing with the Bouquet Bigz L Die that is the flower that popped out as being another option when using the die.  The process for creating a tutorial on how to use the Bouquet Bigz L Die started when my Upline, Janet Wakeland, put out a call looking for a few people in her downline to create a tutorial on how to create paper flowers.  Since I was already playing with the Bouquet Bigz L Die creating flowers and working on plans for a 3D Thursday Video, it just made sense to volunteer!  So, I hope you enjoy my 3D Video sharing with you how to create a paper crafted Peony.

3D Thursday Video – Paper Crafted Peony

Bouquet Bigz L Die Paper Crafted Peony

Paper Crafted Peony

The peony turned out gorgeous!  I love the "ruffled" feel of the petals.  The cardstock that I used for the petals is Blushing Bride, Hello Honey and Wild Wasabi.  To create the flower and if you want it to be on a stem, you'll also need Florist Wire and Floral Tape which you can find at any craft store and even some big box stores.  The Hot Glue gun will be your best friend when creating any paper crafted flowers.  When creating paper crafted flowers, you can also use Designer Series Paper… there are just so many options!

Paper Crafted DaisyAs I mentioned, there are so many options available for creating paper crafted flowers.  In this next sample, I created a Daisy using Whisper White cardstock and Daffodil Delight cardstock.   The "petals" of the flower use another cut from the Bouquet Bigz L Die.  The center actually has a button that is wrapped with cardstock.

These are just two examples of what you can create and accomplish when using the Bouquet Bigz L Die. I encourage you to experiment, look at real flowers and try your hand at creating some paper crafted flowers.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment. I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

PCCCS 137: Sheltering Tree Stamp Set

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Desig Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Tuesday, March 31st at 11:55 PM EST and then voting starts with voting ending on Monday, April 6th at 8:00 PM EST.

Paper Craft Crew

Card Sketch #137

Handmade card by Pam Staples, Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrator and SunnyGirlScraps created for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 137. #stampinup #papercraftcrew #pamstaples #shelteringtreeThe Sheltering Tree Stamp Set is definitely one of my favorite 2015 Stampin' Up! Occasions stamp sets.  I love the versatility of the stamp set.  Up to this point, I've struggled to use it thinking I needed to stamp the full tree image on my card but then I saw numerous samples by other Stampin' Up! demonstrators and I had a light bulb moment.  It was a reminder that you don't have to have the full image and the tree especially works well to stamp off the edge of your cardstock.

I really love how this card came together with the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper setting the tone in the background along with helping me select the colors for this card.  The border colors are Wild Wasabi and Red Rose.  One of my favorite springtime trees growing up was the Crab Apple Tree that my parents had in our backyard…  I LOVED the pretty pink blossoms but any other time of the year I was not a fan of this tree because it caused a mess.  The blossoms from the Crab Apple Tree were the inspiration for my card.

Sheltering Tree card created by Pam Staples for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 137.SunnyGirlScraps Design Tips, Tricks & More:

  • When using the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set, stamp the leaves with both a green and another color or multiple colors.  On my card, I used Wild Wasabi stamped off then I stamped the Blushing Bride to create the feel of tree blossoms.
  • Feel free to stamp your image off the paper… Images do not need to be centered.
  • Rule of Thirds – I like to stress this rule because it helps to draw the line from one point to the next and is visually appealing to the human eye.  Another aspect of the Rule of Thirds… Three small Candy Dots work together to create the allusion of one element.
  • Stampin' Dimensionals help build layers and interest.
  • And… Don't forget, if you are struggling with your creativity then consider using a sketch to get the creative juices flowing.

IMPORTANT: Changing RSS Blog Feed with Feedblitz

To all my Sunny Girl Scrapper Readers:

UPDATE…  Due to my blog crashing just over a week ago, you may have received "notice" of this message but with nothing to link to therefore I've recreated the post and updated the dates for when the Feedburner Feed will be discontinued.

Feedburner, the newsletter/email delivery service I have used for the last 4+ years for sharing my Sunny Girl Scraps blog updates by email and RSS feed, is not working properly nor does it appear that Google is supporting this service any longer. While many of my subscribers are still receiving updates, many are not.

In order to reactivate service for those subscribers who aren't getting my blog updates and avoid a future Feedburner shutdown of delivery for those who are, I recently made the decision to move the email and RSS delivery service to Feedblitz, a much more stable and predictable provider with many more options available to me including multiple Feed Choices (such as offering you the choice to receive only one update a week or more frequent updates).

You should have received an email from me recently (through Feedblitz–the new provider) transferring your subscription from Feedburner to Feedblitz.  If you received it, you don't need to do anything further.  You should be good to go with updates unless you opted out.  For the next TWO weeks, you may get duplicates of my blog updates because both feeds (Feedburner and Feedblitz) will be temporarily active until this transition is complete. You can unsubscribe to the Feedburner account at any time (at the bottom of a Feedburner delivery update) but I will be shutting down Feedburner permanently after April 6, 2015 and any duplicate updates should end automatically. If you have any questions or problems, please don't hesitate to email me at pam@sunnygirlscraps.com.  I'm here to help.

IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL TRANSFER TO FEEDBLITZ, you simply need to subscribe to delivery of my blog updates through Feedblitz HERE.  If you aren't sure whether you already subscribed or are active, you can try to subscribe at the same link and it will let you know if you are already active or step you through the subscription process if you haven't.

To ensure that the updates you want actually reach your inbox, please add the FeedBlitz email address — FeedBlitz@mail.feedblitz.com — to your email white list (or address book) now.

Thank you for your patience during this transition. I am confident you will see many more bloggers doing something similar as they learn what is happening.

Sincerely,

Pam Staples

SUOC #119 – Upright Z Fold Card

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with our theme being Fun Folds.  We invite you to come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on Saturday, April 4th @ 6 AM EST.

SUO Challenge #119

Upright Z Fold Card

Painted Petals Upright Z-Fold Card created by Pam Staples, design team member of the SUO Challenges Blog. #stampinup #pamstaples #zfold #sunnygirlscrapsOh my gosh… I'm so excited to be sharing this card I created for the Fun Folds!  I have NEVER made a Z Fold Card let alone an Upright Z Fold Card.  It is SO easy.  If you have never made a Z Fold Card, let me tell you – go make one NOW!  They are so much fun and SO EASY.  As soon as I decided to try making an Upright Z Fold Card, I knew the Painted Petals Stamp Set with the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper would be perfect.

Sunny Girl Scraps Card Details, Tips & Tricks:

  • Have fun making cards!
  • Don't be afraid to try something new!
  • The Painted Petals Stamp Set features Two-Step Stamping allowing you to stamp the stems of a flower green and the flower the color of your choice. I stamped the stems with Wild Wasabi stamped off and the flower features Blushing Bride.
  • The flower at the top of the card helps anchor the Z Fold.
  • Keep in mind the "balance" on your card… I placed the 3 flowers in a triangular shape to help draw the eye from one point to the next.
  • To create a Z Fold, take a 11 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of cardstock, and fold it in half.  Next, fold one of the other halves in half.  That is the base for the Z Fold and at this point the options are only restricted by your own imagination.

Card Sketch #136 – Moon Lake Masculine Card

Paper Craft Crew Design Team card by Pam Staples for Card Sketch 136. #pamstaples #stampinup #papercraftcrewOk, this is going to be a very brief blog post today.  My husband shared his cold with me and I'm totally exhausted at the moment along with running late posting this at the last minute.  I just want to go to bed and crash.  Of course, I know that a certain 5 year old will be crawling into our bed around 4 AM-ish so I need to get some sleep while I can. Well, I'll confess, I'm enjoying my little boy snuggles while I can because I know that before I know it he'll be graduating from High School and I'll be wondering when the little boy grew up into a young man…  Must be my medicine causing me to ramble.

This week I'm featuring the Moon Lake Stamp Set paired with the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch.  I really do love how this card turned out even if I was a bit dazed as I was creating it.  The card took about 3x's longer than it should have taken to create it but I was having troubles concentrating.  After I took the photo, I realized I didn't add anything for the "ribbon" embellishment.  My original thought was to add a Button or Hodgepodge Clip embellishment tied with a piece of Linen Thread.  Although, I must say that I think this card is perfect the way it is especially for a masculine card.

Well, on that note, I'm signing off and going to bed.  Enjoy the card.

SUOC118 – For Peeps’ Sake Easter Card

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with our theme being "Easter's On The Way."  We invite you to come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on March 21, 2015 at 6:00 AM EST.

SUO Challenge #118

For Peep's Sake Easter Card

_MG_4975

Spring and the arrival of Easter is one of my favorite times of the year!  I love opening the windows and getting rid of the stale air in the house.  This card for the SUO Challenge features the Stampin' Up! For Peep's Sake Stamp Set and just speaks of springtime.  The little chicks are so adorable and sure to brighten your Easter Celebrations.  I love how the Hexagon Hive Thinlit adds texture to the card and makes me think of the arrival of Bees as the flowers start to bloom.

_MG_4980Sunny Girl Scraps Tips, Tricks & Highlights:

  • Coloring on rubber stamps using the Stampin' Write Markers is a great way to add multiple colors to a stamped image!  Just color, huff & stamp.
  • Banners are awesome…  I love adding a little extra detail to the banners by using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border and attaching it to the back of the banner so only a little scallop peeks out from behind the banner.
  • Wrap some Thick Baker's Twine around the banner for the finishing touch.

This card is fun, fresh and so sweet with the Chicks.  I could really see giving it to a younger niece or daughter.  The card really is fairly simple, quick and easy to recreate.

Don't forget to visit the SUO! Challenges Blog to check out the creations from the other Design Team members!  There are so many great ideas and beautiful cards.  Then, go create an Easter Card and share it with us by entering the challenge.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.
