Card Sketch #146 – Sprinkles of Life

Sprinkles of Life Sneak Peek by Pam Staples, SunnyGirlScraps. #stampinup #pamstaples

I just love the Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set with the Tree Builder Punch that coordinates with the stamp set.  Here is a fun basket of flowers created using the Sprinkles of Life.  The flowers balance out the basket along with the sentiment.  This was a really fun, easy card to assemble and having a coordinating punch to match the stamp set helps out!

SunnyGirlScraps Stamping TIps & Tricks:

  • When trying to decide what to purchase, consider purchasing bundles!  They are a great deal and the coordinating items make it easy to add extra pizzazz to your cards.
  • Layer flowers for extra depth!
  • Finish flowers off with a pearl, rhinestone or Candy Dot.
  • The Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set is great for backgrounds!

Here is this weeks Card Sketch with the Paper Craft Crew.  If you are having a mental creative block, card sketches are a great way to kickstart your creative juices.  Why not stop over at the Paper Craft Crew, create a card inspired by this weeks Card Sketch and post to the blog!

SUOC #123 – Sweet Treats Gift Bag Punch Board Sneak Peek

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with a theme of Sweet Treats.  We invite you to come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on Saturday, June 6th @ 6:00 AM EST.

SUO Challenge #123

Sweet Treats with the Gift Bag Punch Board

Handmade Sweet Treat Box created by Pam Staples, SunnyGirlScraps, for the SUO Challenges as a design team member.

Handmade Sweet Treat Box created by Pam Staples, SunnyGirlScraps, for the SUO Challenges as a design team member.

Have you ever tried creating something without reading the instructions?  Or, better yet, have a husband that doesn't read the instructions or is an Engineer? As I was making my bag with the new punch board, I thought I knew how to assemble with bag without reading the instructions and it just happens that I made a mistake as my husband – an Engineer – walks into the room.  He then had to give me a hard time about not reading the instructions and commenting that he thought only men or Engineers didn't use instructions.  So, I told him that as a Paper Engineer sometimes we don't always use instructions especially when we think we have the project figured out.   Oops… as soon as I pulled out the instructions the bag came together perfectly.

I adore this cute little bag and the Gift Bag Punch Board is totally awesome! You can make a variety of different sizes from a small to large base with the height of the bag being limited only by your paper size.  My first bag was going to be tall but I quickly discovered that it was better to keep the height a bit more manageable when you are first learning how to make the bag.

Handmade Sweet Treat Box created by Pam Staples, SunnyGirlScraps, for the SUO Challenges as a design team member.

This bag features the new Bohemian Designer Series Paper.  The attached elements start with the Black Berry Bliss punched with the 2" Circle Punch then embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.  Next, I cut a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock to 1 1/2" and stamped the "Shine" image from the Banner Blessings Photopolymer Stamp Set with Bermuda Bay Classic Ink then used the totally awesome Banner Triple Punch.  In the bottom left corner, I added a small flower with a Very Vanilla Candy Dot.  Finally, I added the Island Indigo 1/4" Cotton Ribbon to the top where I punched holes using the Gift Bag Punch Board.

Don't forget to visit the SUO! Challenges Blog to check out the creations from the other Design Team members!

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

PCCCS 145: Just Kidding Card

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Tuesday, May 26th at 11:55 PM EST when voting begins.  Vote on up to 3 of your favorite submissions before voting closes on Monday, June 1 @ 8:00 PM EST.

Paper Craft Crew

Card Sketch #145

PCCCS140-Pam004

I have a little back story to go along with this weeks card.  The Just Kidding Stamp Set has some really great sayings along with the "we'll be friends until we're old and senile…" and a few months ago I turned 46 years old.  Now, some of you may or may not know this but I also have a 5 1/2 year old son and at times I've been feeling my age creep up on me when I try to keep up with our son especially as he is becoming more active.  While chatting with a friend, I discovered she was closer to my age than I realized and she also has a 5 year old which led us to this little saying.

PCCCS140-Pam003

This weeks sketch really is perfect for this stamp set.  I stamped the "old lady" and used a Watercolor technique I call "dry brushing" which is where you use add a little water to your color but then use a dry brush to apply the color.  With this technique, you can actually create some nice shading along with intensity of the colors or just add a little water to help spread the color.  You can also get away with not using watercolor paper as you don't use as much water although you still need to be careful with the paper especially if you are not using watercolor paper.

The card includes some new Stampin' Up! products such as the Delightful Dijon Cardstock and the Bohemian Designer Series Paper.  I love the colors in the Bohemian Designer Series Paper but I'm not a fan of all the patterns but at least each sheet has a pattern that I at least like and some that I love.  Anyway, I love the pattern that I used for this card which features the Blackberry Bliss along with Island Indigo, Bermuda Bay and the Delightful Dijon.

PCCCS140-Pam001

As I assembled my card, I started with a Very Vanilla Card Base cut to a 5" x 5" card.  The card front starts with a Blackberry Bliss layer (probably my favorite in color now) with a Very Vanilla Layer.  Based on the sketch, I added the circle layer with a Delightful Dijon featuring a paper pierced circle then layered with another sheet of very vanilla.  Both circles were cut using the Circle Collection Framelits.

Next, I added my stamped layer with the "old lady" which is also attached to another layer of Blackberry Bliss – do we see a theme yet!  I added the retiring Stitched Satin Ribbon in Blackberry Bliss with a bow tied to the ribbon and added the sentiment punched using the Oval Punch with the Scalloped Oval background layer using Island Indigo cardstock.  Finally, for the finishing touches I added the single flower in the top right corner by the "old lady" topped off with a pearl with three additional pearls in the left hand corner.

Definitely a fun card!

RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour – Fond Farewell

Welcome to this months RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour!  On the 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 8 PM EST, we feature a new theme.  We invite you to also check out our Pinterest Pages to see additional ideas so you definitely want to "Like" my Pinterest Page.

This months theme is Fond Farewell!  So, welcome to the May 2015 RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour as we say a Fond Farewell to some of our favorite Stamp Sets, In Colors, embellishments and more.

RemARKable Stampers Blog Tour

Fond Farewell

I'm sad to see so many favorites retiring and it is with a Fond Farewell that we say good bye to these Stampin' Up! products from this past year.  So many stamp sets, accessories and Designer Series Paper will no longer be available after June 1st. While I'm sad, I'm also excited about the new year and all the lovely new products but if there is one product group I'll miss the most I would say it would be the 2013-2015 In Colors and the Perfect Blend Stamp Set. The 2013-2015 In Colors have been some of my absolutely favorite In-Colors, so it is with a Fond Farewell and much sadness that I must now say goodbye.

Project #1 – Yippee Skippee In Color Card Fond Farewell

Fond Farewell-Pam003

If you look closely at this card you may see a few tears! Oh, how sad I am to see these beautiful In Colors go… Strawberry Slush, Coastal Cabana, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, and Baked Brown Sugar – yes, I weep and already miss you. Let the swan song begin as we praise your gorgeous hues and say a Fond Farewell.

Fond Farewell-Pam010

Here I am starting off with a card featuring most of the retiring In Colors. On the Whisper White Card Front, I started by stamping the background using Gorgeous Grunge – my absolute FAVORITE STAMP SET – using the Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana. Next, I wrapped the Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's twine around the card front and tied a tiny little bow.

The sentiment is from the Yippee Skippee Stamp Set and stamped with the Strawberry Slush and cut out using my favorite framelit from the Apothecary Accents Framelits which is layered over the Thick Backer's Twine. Next, I stamped flowers from the Petite Petals Stamp Set using the Crisp Cantaloupe Classic Ink.  The Whisper White card front was attached to a piece of Strawberry Slush Cardstock then attached to the Whisper White Card Base.  For the final touch, I added the Basic Pearls to the center of each flower.

Project #2 – Fond Farewell to a Perfect Blend

Fond Farewell-Pam006

Let me just start by saying I only became a coffee drinker (well, my husband would say more of "fru-fru" coffee drinker) a few years ago otherwise I HATED anything with coffee in it.  I'll chalk it up to having a child and needing caffeine!  When Stampin' Up! first introduced the Perfect Blend Stamp Set, I was just starting to develop a taste for Iced Coffee's and Frappacino's.  I'm really sad to see this stamp set go because I loved taking it to Starbucks with me for some Mocha Monday stamping fun.

This card has to be one of my most recent favorites.  I pulled out my favorite retiring background… the Dictionary Stamp and stamped the background with Baked Brown Sugar but I used the "Stamp Off" technique to lighten the color just a little.  Then I stamped a "coffee spill" using the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set which sets the scene for my two coffee cups.

Fond Farewell-Pam009

The coffee cups are stamped with the Coastal Cabana first on Very Vanilla Cardstock then again on Real Red Designer Series Paper Stack.  I'm not one to do much fussy cutting but this stamp set was really easy to "fussy" cut so I cut out the coffee cups and the middle portion of the coffee cups from the Real Red Chevron Designer Series Paper Stack design.  Before I attached the coffee cups, I added some Natural Cotton Ribbon attached with staples.  So, now that the coffee cups are attached, it was time to add some fun embellishments.

Fond Farewell-Pam007

I love embellishing the coffee cups with the flowers and the Boho Blossoms Punch was the perfect tool to use for the little flower with a basic pearl added to the center.  The flower also anchors the "What's Up?" banner which is layered with Coastal Cabana cardstock.  The "What's Up?" is found in the retiring stamp set of the same name.  I also stamped the arrow from the What's Up? Stamp Set and attached the arrow pointing towards the fun sentiment.  Oh, and before I forget, I added a fun feature by curling the corner of the stamped very vanilla card front which I also stamped on the backside so you would see the "dictionary" print on both sides of the cardstock – a fun effect, kind of like you are just about turn the page!

On this card, I also decided to finish off the inside of the card by using one of the sentiments from the Perfect Blend Stamp Set stamped with Real Red Classic Ink that just happens to fit perfectly with the "What's Up?" on the front of the card.  I also added a splash of layered color inside the card with the use of Real Red cardstock. Coffee shops are a great place to meet with friends and socialize.

Project #3 –  Box In A Bag

Fond Farewell-Pam012Fond Farewell-Pam013

I LOVE the Box In A Bag project and they really are fairly easy to make and it is easy to adjust the measurements based on what you want to put in the bag.  The key to the Box In A Bag is the "box" base as that sets the tone and once you have your box base you just need to add the sides based on how tall you want the bag to be.  My bag is large enough to hold the standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card along with envelopes.  Stop by tomorrow after 8 PM EST to see the cards that I have made to go inside this Box In A Bag.

Fond Farewell-Pam014

The bag features the Back to Black Designer Series Paper with black accents using the Basic Black cardstock with white "stitching" that I added using the White Stampin' Chalk Marker.  I used the Antique Brads to attach the handles to the bag.  For a splash of color, I created a flower using the retiring Mixed Bunch Stamp Set along with the retiring Blossom Punch.  The flower was stamped using Strawberry Slush Classic Ink and is created using three punched images with two of the layers having either a slit or notch cut to make the center petals fold together for fewer petals.  Just behind the flower is a banner I added and created using a NEW product called the Banner Triple Punch which will be available from the upcoming 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog.

Of course, I needed a tag for my Box In A Bag so I pulled out the Chalk Talk Stamp Set and Scalloped Tag Topper.  The tag is Basic Black layered with the Chalk Talk image stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Whisper White Cardstock.  I then added the "For You" using the Basic Black cardstock stamped with White Craft Ink and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder.  The tag is attached with the Strawberry Slush Thick Baker's Twine and can actually be tucked inside the bag.

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment.  I love hearing from all my readers!

PCCCS 144: Butterfly Basics

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 11:55 PM EST when you can start voting on up to 3 of your favorite submissions with voting closing on Monday, May 25th @ 8:00 PM EST.

Card Sketch #144

I hope all the lovely mom's that read my blog enjoyed their Mother's Day.  My Sunday started with me digging a hole to plant my last Peony Bush then my Husband and son helped finish the hole all the while we were hoping Tropical Storm Ana didn't dump a bunch of rain on us.  Let me just say we had fun and even tried growing more "Caleb's!"  Here is an adorable photo of my son standing in the hole.  It was so sweet seeing him help his daddy dig then helping me plant my bush, fill the hole with dirt and pat all the dirt down.  When the last Peony Bush was planted, he insisted that we pray for the plants so they can grow big and strong just like him.  He just melts my heart.  I truly hope to see many beautiful blossoms in about a year along with Butterflies as I feature the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set this week.

Butterfly Basics

Now, for this weeks Paper Craft Crew Design Team card for Card Sketch 144…  Let me just say that I LOVE Butterflies and I'm so excited that the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and coordinating Butterfly Thinlets will be in the new 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog.  My card today actually uses 4 out 5 of the NEW In Colors.

To set the scene for the card based off this weeks Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 144, I stamped a background with Sahara Sand Classic Ink three times in a row then I used the fern stamp with the NEW Cucumber Crush Classic Ink stamped as an overlay on the background.  Next, I added another background image with the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set using the NEW Delightful Dijon Classic Ink.  Instead of stamping an image and cutting out a circle or similar image, I opted to do a circular wrap of Linen Thread.  Next, I stamped a small strip of Whisper White with the Hardwood Background Stamp using the NEW Tip Top Taupe (I love this Taupe!) and added it to the front of the card.

PCCCS144-Pam004

As I started adding the final elements, I used the Banner Punch with the Banner Banter Stamp Set.  The stamped images feature the Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush colors again.  For a little something "different" and to show a color that coordinates with the new In-Colors, I used the Blushing Bride Card Stock to create a small flower which I attached to the card front just about the stamped Hardwood strip.  Finally, I added the Butterfly which was cut out using the Butterfly Thinlets and Watermelon Wonder Card Stock.  But… of course, the card still wasn't finished.  I added some pearls to complete the card.  I love how this card turned out.

I'm just starting to explore the NEW In Colors and I know it will take me a little while to completely fall in love with them especially as I LOVED the 2013-2015 Stampin' Up! In Colors SO MUCH but I am quickly discovering the potential of these new colors.  I'm certain I'll be head over heels in love with the new colors in no time at all (I usually do!).

Fun Flowers

Fun Flowers SUOC 122 Design Team Card created by Pam Staples.Welcome back to the SUO Challenge.  We are excited to be back in full swing after having a Blog Malfunction which crashed our blog for about 10 days!  Today, we are bringing you a NEW Challenge Theme of Fun Flowers.  Springtime is my favorite time of the year as I just love the new life blooming and all the gorgeous flowers.  My absolute favorite flowers are Peonies, Irisis, Tulips, Lilac and Snapdragons.  You'll notice that most of those flowers are spring flowers.

I'm pretty excited to share that I recently found a place were I can actually get Peony Bushes and not just the bulbs to plant.  I DO NOT have a green thumb – I would say it is more of a gray/green thumb as it is hit or miss whether or not I'll kill a plant or it will thrive.  This is my second round with Peony Bushes.  I want them SOOO bad as the Peony has special meaning to me as my wedding flower (along with Cala Lilies).  I did discover that I planted my peony bush bulbs in the wrong place to close to bushes and the Peony does NOT like to compete for water with other bushes.  Hopefully, I'll have a gardening success story to share with you over the next few months and over the year.

Now that I've established that I LOVE flowers, here is my design team card for the Fun Flower SUO Challenge.  My preorder package of goodies just arrived so I decided to use some of the new In-Colors and products.  The background on my card starts with a new stamp set – You've Got This – stamped with the Mint Macaron which is also a new In-Color.

The accents on my card started with me using the Watermelon Wonder Dotted Lace Trim gathered along the left bottom edge of the card.  Then I added the banner with the sentiment stamped from the "You've Got This" stamp set.  For the flowers I used the Flower Shop Stamp Set with the coordinating Pansy Punch and the flowers are stamped with Blushing Bride Classic Ink.  I actually really like the Watermelon Wonder and Blushing Bride together.  To finish off the flowers I added the silver Basic Metal Buttons with Linen Thread.  I finished the card front by adding a Watermelon Wonder layer then attached the card front to a piece of Whisper White Cardstock.

My focus was to really showcase a couple of the NEW In Colors while keeping the card fairly simple with just a hint of sophistication by adding the Dotted Lace Trim.  Let me just say that I LOVE the Doted Lace Trim in ALL the colors.

Card Sketch 142 – Retired Product

Retired Product card

I really had lots of fun creating this weeks card for the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 142 and actually challenged myself to keep it simple without lots of extra layers.  It is a fun card!  I used the Kinda Eclectic "sun" stamp for a background image then I added some more gorgeous grunge images for the background based on the card sketch.

There is definitely some favorite Retiring Product used on this card including the In Colors, Embellishments and stamp sets.  The retiring product I focused on are two stamp sets – #hello and Geometrical.  I really loved the "funness" of #hello and the classic triangles of Geometrical.  Of course, the matching triangle punch is also retiring which makes me sad because it is such a great punch for masculine type cards.   The "@" sign is stamped with my absolute favorite color…  Coastal Cabana!  I think I love this color so much because I live near the ocean and am also a Scuba Diver.  Coastal Cabana makes me think of the Caribbean Islands and diving the beautiful blue depths of the ocean.

Of course, Birthday's DO ROCK so I added a little stamped fun from the #hello stamp set.  The triangles come from the Geometrical Stamp Set and are stamped using Crushed Curry Classic Ink, punched out with the Triangle Punch and accented with a clip from the Basic Hodgepodge Clips Embellishments pack.

  • Retiring Stamp Sets will remain in production up until May 26th then the stamps will only be available while supplies last!
