Card Sketch #134 – Easter Card

Handmade Stampin Up Easter Card created by Pam Staples, Sunny Girl Scraps. #stampinup #eastercard #pamstaples #sunnygirlscraps

Today, I'm sharing with you an Easter Card I created using the For Peep's Sake Stamp Set which features the Bokeh background.  I'm in love with the Bokeh Background and can't wait to share a video with you which I've filmed but haven't finished editing yet so keep an eye open.  There are actually two methods that I know of for doing the Bokeh Technique and I'll be sharing the Sponge Method.

As for the card itself, the base is Whisper White and the card base is Marina Mist layered with the card front featuring the Bokeh technique.  I stamped the sentiment from the "For Peep's Sake" stamp set with Marina Mist then added the floral accents with the Candy Dots.  Don't forget that the "For Peep's Sake" is available for only a short time through the Occasions Catalog and you can purchase the stamp set by clicking on the "Shop Now" button.

PCCCS134-Pam001

Tips & Tricks from Sunny Girl Scraps:

  • Go ahead and try a new technique!  The Bokeh Technique with the sponging is fun and really easy.
  • Sponge a colorful background using either 2 or 3 colors.
  • Create a template with circles cut out by using the Stampin' Up! Window Sheets and the Circular Framelits.
  • The actual Bokeh effect is created by using the Craft Whisper White Ink sponged over the original colors already applied to the card front.
  • The essentials hardware clips are a fun way to add an accent to a card.  I highly recommend these cute little clips as a wonderful addition to your crafting stash.
  • I placed Candy Dots coordinating with the Marina Mist for the center of each flower.
  • Flowers are a great accent for Easter and Spring Themed cards.

CCMC344 – Hello You Thinlits

Oh, yes, it is time for another Color Challenge with Create with Connie & Mary.  This week they have a beautiful, springy color combination that definitely challenged me as they are not colors I use often and rarely would I use all three of them together even though the combination is actually very beautiful (and girly!)…  Weird as it may seem but when I saw the color combination for the challenge, I was inspired to use my Hello You Thinlits.  Here is my submission for this weeks Color Challenge CCMC344!

Hello You Thinlits

CCMC #344

Handmade card by Pam Staples, Sunny Girl Scraps, submitted to the Create with Connie and Mary Color Challenge CCMC344. #stampinup #pamstaples #ccmc

I love the Hello You Thinlits along with the coordinating Crazy About You stamp set.  There are so many options and combinations for creating customized cards when you use both the Hello You Thinlits and Crazy About You stamp set together.  While creating this card, I think I played with almost all the various combinations before I finally settled on making this a "hello" from all of us card!  Of course, you are probably wondering what the color combination is so let me share that with you first…  The Create with Connie & Mary Color Challenge is:

CCMC344 Color Challenge

With the color scheme set for my card, I started with the border color for my card front using the Blackberry Bliss… Let me just say that I LOVE Blackberry Bliss – it is such a RICH, deep and gorgeous color.  Then I layered on some Whisper White.

The Whisper White card front layer features a Blushing Bride Chevron background stamped using the Work of Art Stamp Set.  Next, I pulled out my absolute ALL TIME FAVORITE stamp set – Gorgeous Grunge – and stamped the background with both the Blackberry Bliss and Rose Red Classic Inks.

CCMC344-Pam002

From the Hello You Thinlits, I grabbed the "Hello" which is cut out of the Blackberry Bliss Card Stock and attached over the stamped background.  Next, I added the "From All Of Us" banner just below the Hello cutout.

Now that I had the sentiments attached to the card it was time to add the accents.  I love the Petite Petals stamp set and the small flowers were perfect for this card.  The cluster of three flowers came first then I added two more flowers just because (and I like the placement of them).  Inside each small flower, I added even smaller flowers which are stamped using the Pictogram Punches Stamp Set and punched out using the smallest flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punches – these flowers with the pearl finishes each flower.

So, there you have it.  A beautiful, feminine card featuring the Hello You Thinlits featuring Blackberry Bliss, Rose Red and Blushing Bride as part of the Create with Connie & Mary Color Challenge 344 and don't forget to visit their blog for more inspiration!

I invite you to pin any of my creations to Pinterest and to share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment. I love hearing from all my readers – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

PCCCS 133: Best Day Ever

It's Wednesday and you know what that means… I'm over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Card Sketch Challenge!   Come on over and check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on March 3, 2015 @11:55 PM ET.

Paper Craft Crew

Card Sketch #133

Best Day Ever

Best Day Ever handmade card by Pam Staples, Sunny Girl Scraps. #bestdayever #stampinup #pamstaples

With another snow storm hitting North Carolina and second potential "snow" event on the heals of this storm, I really needed to pull out the fun and bright colors!  I love snow but I dislike the school cancelations.  Don't get me wrong… I totally love and adore my son but when he is home nothing gets done.  As an only child with special needs, he takes a lot of extra one-on-one time especially if he is fussy or cranky.

  • Grunge is awesome!  The Gorgeous Grunge stamp set is my go to stamp set when I want a fun, grunge background.  On this card, I combined two different colors – Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay – to create this great background.

PCCCS133 Pam002

  • This is only the second time I've used the Be A Star Stamp Set and it is great for creating fun stars and the stamp set coordinates beautifully with the Star Framelits.
  • Punches are totally RAD – I just love the Butterfly Punches and layering them together and the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack rocks!
  • The Chalkboard Paper is totally awesome with the ColorBox Chalk Ink.  I used the Aquamarine color on this card!
  • Finally, embellishments are our friend!  A great way to finish off a card is to add those extra little elements that just help create balance and complete a project.

CCMC #343 – Chalkboard Paper Happy Birthday

Create with Connie & Mary have another fun Challenge this week with a great Card Sketch!  I really had fun creating this card and using the new Chalkboard paper – Totally awesome and fun to use!  Unfortunately, while creating this card I did discover I had a defective punch so that idea couldn't be implemented but when I get my replacement punch I'm going to make a second card with this sketch!

Chalkboard Paper Happy Birthday

CCMC #343

_MG_4884

Birthday Cards are always great to have on hand because you never know when you'll need one on short notice for a new friend, coworker or one of your kids friends.  This card might actually be for me as it will be going into my Birthday Card stash that I keep on hand for my husband to use when he needs a card – Our form of shopping "Hallmark" for cards!

  • This is the first time I've used the Chalkboard Paper and the ColorBox Chalk Ink.  I love how the chalk ink stands out so nicely on the chalkboard paper which definitely compliments and helps the bold colors of the card pop!

  • Chalkboard Paper is lots of fun to work with and helps create a bold statement mixed with bold colors.

  • The top portion of the card front is Melon Mambo embossed using the Lucky Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

  • To separate the Melon Mambo and Chalkboard Paper, I added the Daffodil Delight 1/4" Cotton Ribbon.

  • I used the "Be A Star" stamp set with Daffodil Delight Classic Ink.  The star really pops and adds a nice bold statement that contrasts nicely against the Chalkboard Paper and the Melon Mambo Card stock.

  • The Daffodil Delight Candy Dots add just the perfect touch…  When I look at the candy dots on this card, it just makes me think of a shooting star!

  • Create with Connie and Mary SketchBased on the sketch, the angled line really creates an interesting design especially with a simpler card.  Here is the sketch from Create with Connie and Mary!  Click here to visit the Challenge and see what the Design Team members created…  They have some great card samples.

SUOC #117 – Cards for Teens

Guess what! It is time for another challenge from Stampin' Up! Only Challenges. The new challenge is lots of fun with a Cards for Teens theme.  We invite you to come play along as this challenge starts today and ends on March 7, 2015 @ 6:00 AM ET.

SUO Challenge #117

Cards for Teens

Handmade Card created for the Create with SUO Challenges 117 by Pam Staples featuring the Peace, Love and Cupcake Stamp Set. #stampinup #pamstaples #serenesilhouettes #sunnygirlscraps

  • I had so much fun creating this Teen themed card!  The Peace, Love and Cupcake Stamp Set is absolutely perfect for the teenage girls in your life.  It is hip and fun.
  • The card front features Hello Honey with a Smoky Slate layer on the bottom 2/3 of the card which is also embossed with the Happy Heart Embossing Folder.  On the upper third of the card front, I stamped dots with Smoky Slate Classic Ink from the Dotty Angles Stamp Set.
  • Smoky Slate Chevron Ribbon was the perfect accent to create division between the two card front layers.  I even tucked the Whisper White Banner under the edge of the ribbon.

Handmade Card created for the Create with SUO Challenges 117 by Pam Staples featuring the Peace, Love and Cupcake Stamp Set. #stampinup #pamstaples #serenesilhouettes #sunnygirlscraps

  • In the close up, you can see how I stamped the Peace, Love & Friends on the banner attached to the card front.
  • The Peace Sign, Heart and Flower are a representation of the sentiment and just speak "Teenage Girl."
  • My finishing touches include a Silver Metallic Button in the center of the flower tied with Basic Gray Baker's Twine and a Rhinestone on the heart.

So, I hope you enjoy and PIN my card.  (And I admit, this card keeps growing on me…)  Don't forget to visit the SUO! Challenges Blog to check out the creations from the other Design Team members!

Chalk Talk Vintage Card

I'm back with a vintage card today featuring the Chalk Talk Stamp Set that I'm entering into two card challenges.  I don't create vintage cards nearly as often as I used to and they are lots of fun to create..  One of my favorite ways to create that vintage feel is using lace along with shading around the card edge.  The colors also help set the tone on the card.  The challenges I'm entering this card into are the Crafty Gals Corner Challenge #7 which is a bingo challenge and the As You Like It Challenge.

Chalk Talk Vintage Card

CGCC-Pam005

As I mentioned in a previous post a few weeks back, one of my goals this year is to be more active in online Card Challenges so I decided to go on the hunt for some different challenges.  I really loved these two challenges since the met my criteria for participation and who doesn't LOVE a good game of BINGO!

For the Crafty Gals Corner Challenge #7 you had to choose one row from the Bingo Card shown below.  I choose to use the 2nd row by creating a Vintage feeling card using Lace and Flowers.  I really do love how this card turned out. The card base is Whisper White with the card front starting with a layer of Crumb Cake then Rose Red and another layer of Whisper White stamped using the Something Lacy Background Stamp from Stampin' Up! with Sahara Sand Classic Ink.  I love the look of the Something Lacy Background Stamp which is absolutely perfect to set the tone for a vintage feeling card.  Next, I sponged around the edges using Crumb Cake Classic Ink – another layer of "Vintage."

CGCC-Pam004One of my favorite "Vintage" techniques is to use lace and create a "rouched" or gathered effect.  The Sahara Sand Lace Trim is absolutely gorgeous when gathered on the card front.  I actually did a double layer of the lace!  Yep, I'm in love with this lace trim and already need to order my 3rd roll in less than a month!

The main image features the Chalk Talk stamp set.  I used the "vintage" tag which is stamped with Rose Red Classic Ink then I stamped the "For You" using the Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink and punched it out with the 1-3/8" circle punch to layer over the tag.  The tag is layered with Rose Red card stock which I then positioned on the card front in the upper left corner overlapping the lace trim.

CGCC-Pam003So, I only had one element missing…  Flowers!  The flowers on my card are stamped again with the Rose Red and feature the Flower Shop Stamp Set with the coordinating Pansy Punch.  Each flower petal was curled using a bone folder then the flowers were positioned on the card to highlight the sentiment.  Behind the flowers I added the leaves which were cut using the Bouquet Bigz L Die.  In the center of each flower, I placed a Very Vintage Designer Buttons with two buttons having the Linen Thread just threaded through for a cleaner look and the last flower having a Linen Thread Double Bow.

Pearls… For the final touch, I just had to add some pearls.  When I think of a classically vintage item Pearls just jump into my mind.  Think of it as that classic touch finishing off a gorgeous and elegant dress.

Bingo Challenge # 1

So, there you have it!  The card that I created for the Crafty Gals Corner Challenge featuring this Bingo Card!  I really did have fun with this challenge and I hope you have enjoyed this classic, vintage card featuring Lace & Flowers.

CYCI57 – Sheltering Tree Stamp Set

I have a great card for you today featuring the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set.  I was inspired by the Can You Case It #57 challenge this week.  The challenge required no more than 2 layers plus the card base and at least one embellishment that you could make in 10 MINUTES OR LESS!  The Sheltering Tree stamp set really is perfect for this type of challenge.

Sheltering Tree Stamp Set

Can You Case It #57

Handmade Card featuring the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set created by Pam Staples, Sunnygirlscraps. #stampinup #shelteringtree #pamstaplesWow… I just love the Sheltering Tree Stamp set from the 2015 Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog.  This is such a great photopolymer stamp set with some very cute accessories to accent the tree.  To stick with the rules of the challenge, I used a Whisper White Card Base.  The card front layer consists of a Blushing Bride with a Whisper White top layer.  Both layers are distressed using Stampin' Distress Tool.

While at Stampin' Up! Leadership, I learned a really cool new technique using the Photopolymer Stamps.  You can actually take the stamp and flip it over on your acrylic block and stamp with the back side of the block which is what I did to create the lighter green background using Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink.  I then flipped the same stamp over (after cleaning it) and stamped the "leaf" image using Old Olive Classic Ink.  The tree trunk is stamped over the tree canopy with Early Espresso Classic Ink.  The swing was also added to the tree using basic black.  For grass, I used another stamp from the set with the Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink.

Handmade Card featuring the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set created by Pam Staples, Sunnygirlscraps. #stampinup #shelteringtree #pamstaples

The final touches needed on the card was a little embellishment – not much because I didn't want to take away from the tree.  I love the Metallic Buttons so added one to the card with a Linen Thread bow.  It really is the perfect touch – not too much – just right for the feel I was looking for on this card.  Of course, I just needed to finish the card with a sentiment.

Hey… I just realized I only used ONE Stamp Set on this card!  Yep, the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set is a keeper and MUST HAVE stamp set.  If you don't have it – get it!  AND… This card took under 10 minutes to make!

Mother's Love Stamp Set

Card Sketch #132

PCCCS132-pam001This weeks card for the Paper Craft Crew features the Mother's Love Stamp Set.  For the card front, I started with Blackberry Bliss cardstock and a layer of Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  The ribbon is the Blackberry Bliss Stitched Satin.  The Window Frames Collection framelits sets the tone for the sentiment from the Mother's Love Stamp Set with flowers stamped from the same stamp set.  The Window Frame is also layered with a piece of White Doilies from the Artisan Embellishment Kit.

PCCCS132-pam002I love everything about this card but some of my favorite features are the finishing touches that I added to the card.  The Blackberry Bliss flowers are created using the Petite Petals Punch and the Itty Bitty Accents Punch.  The pearls and fancy silver button are part of the Artisan Embellishment Kit.
