Banners and Garlands

It is always fun to create your own home decor and that is one reason why I LOVE Banners & Garlands.  The first project I'm sharing with you features an indoor wreath that I have hanging on our front door decorating our entryway.  I love the Black and Cream with a pop of red as I celebrate Valentines but I've kept it neutral enough that it can stay up until I get my next project finished.  Now, I hope to add a few more projects but I live southeast of Raleigh, NC and as I write this blog post we are getting hit with the worst Snow / Ice storm since the last Snow / Ice storm hit in early 2000 (according to the news, I wasn't living in North Carolina for that storm.)  Anyway, I'm still working on the other projects but decided I needed to get something ready to post in case we loose power.  If you see that I don't have anything posted for Project #2 and Project #3, that means we lost power before I had a chance to finish, photograph and post the projects.

Project #1 – Heart Wreath featuring a Banner Blast

Heart Wreath featuring the Banner Blast Stamp Set from Sale-A-Bration

I'm excited to be sharing this fun Valentine themed project featuring the Banner Blast Stamp Set from Sale-A-Bration.   The project starts with a Heart Shaped Styrofoam wreath form.  I started by attaching Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon to the wreath form.  Next, using Modern Medley Designer Series Paper, I cut the 12 x 12 paper into 1/2" strips which I then curled using the Bone Folder tool.  After I had the paper curled, I used dressmaker pins to attach the curled strips to the Heart Shaped wreath form starting at the bottom point and moving around the form.

Then I created a banner using Cherry Cobbler Card stock cut to 1 1/4" strip and on each end I used the 1" square punch to create the banner.  On each of end of the banner, I also created a crease to create a raised center on the banner.  The next step was to stamp my garland banner using the Banner Blast Stamp Set which I punched out using the Banner Punch.  I used Linen Thread to attach each little banner together then attached the banner garland to the Cherry Cobbler banner with Stampin' Dimenstionals.

Project #2 – Perfect Pennants

Perfect Pennants Sending Good Thoughts card.

Well, we've been "Pax-ified" here in Smithfield, NC with lots of Snow and Ice… and Snowmageddon2 isn't done with us yet!  I just keep telling myself spring will eventually arrive.  I love snow but really dislike the ICE and we have a good inch of ice on the ground as the sleet then rain caused some of the snow to melt and refreeze overnight.  We are expecting another round of Sleet to arrive in a couple of hours (it is currently 9:30 am as I write this) followed by anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of additional snow to top off all the sleet that has arrived.  So far, we have not lost power but lights did flicker last night.

The good news for us is that we are expecting the temperatures to climb into the 50's on Saturday then next week the forecast is calling for 60 degree weather which means this transplanted Minnesota Yankee will be pulling out her shorts!  Did you know that when I first arrived in North Carolina on February 14, 2006, the temperature was in the mid-70's and as my husband and I were house shopping, I wore shorts!  I really can't wait for the return of 60+ degree weather and pulling out my shorts and spring dresses.

So, as I keep my mind focused on the arrival of spring like temperatures I just had to create a card that conjured thoughts of flowers and butterflies.  With this card I feature the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set which coordinates with the Banners Framelits Dies.  I love that the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set and Banners Framelits coordinate and make it so easy to create a banner.

I started off with a card base of Basic Black cardstock which I then layered with Crisp Cantaloupe followed by a layer of the Sale-A-Bration Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper.  Next, I used the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set to stamp the sentament with Pool Party Classic Ink on Whisper White Cardstock which I cut out using the Banners Framelits.  Next, I created some layers of interest behind the banner by attaching a small piece of the Tea Lace Paper Doily then I took Pool Party Cardstock cut in a strip then cut with the Fringe Scissors to create a fringed border which was again layered behind the Tea Lace Doily and Banner.  The banner was then attached to the card front.

Scallop Circle FlowersFor the additional elements on the card, I created two flowers using the 7/8" scallop circle for the smaller Summer Starfruit flower and the 1 1/4" scallop circle punch for the larger Pool Party flower.  To create the flowers, punch out 4 or 5 scallop circles, crumple them in your hand and even rub them together then open each scallop and stack them together to create the flower.  I finished off both flowers by using the Candy Dots Brad Bases with a Candy Dot added to each flower.  Next, I stamped an image from the Notable Notions Stamp Set and punched out the image using the 1" Circle Punch.  I also stamped a butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set and punched it out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch.

The finished card has the two flowers and circle elements placed in the upper left corner next to the banner.  I then placed the butterfly on the bottom right directly onto the banner.  For the finishing touch I added some small Basic Pearls to the butterfly.
