Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012 – I Am Earning the Incentive Trip

Stampin' Up! Convention 2012

I Am Earning the Incentive Trip with Karen Hauley

Let me start out by saying I have never earned the Stampin' Up! incentive trip!  During Convention 2012 in the "I Am Earning the Incentive Trip" with Karen Hauley and three additional presenters, I won a "Pillow Gift."  I have to say it was really exciting to see that I won and even a motivator.  Now, I'll admit I'm not over the top excited about the 2014 incentive trip on a Western Caribbean Cruise especially seeing the Ports of Call.  BUT… What does excite me about at least trying to earn this trip is that my husband and I would be celebrating our 9th Wedding Anniversary and, well, the Allure of the Seas is a really AWESOME looking ship!

So, the I Am Earning the Incentive Trip really opened my eyes to the potential I have within me.  I definitely want to go on free cruise with my husband to celebrate our 9th Wedding Anniversary.  The class was a good overview of all the requirements and ways demonstrators can earn the trip.  The key point made was to use the tools provided by Stampin' Up! as well as to be consisted with class offerings, events, and blogging.  It is also keep to focus on building the client list as well as making NEW Contacts because you never know when a new contact will lead to a NEW Client.

Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012 – I Am Reaching Out

Stampin' Up! Convention 2012

I Am Reaching Out with Emily Montoya

So, this year Convention 2012 was all about reaching out…  Reaching Out to the generations and, especially Generation Y, that is!  The I Am Reaching Out class with Emily Montoya really touched base and reinforced what Generation Y speaker Jason Dorsey was talking about in his keynote presentation during the first general session of the Stampin' Up! Convention 2012.

Just so you know… I'm part of Generation X and, yes, I do use punctuation in my text messages!

All I can say is that this class really touched home base for me and some of the frustrations I experienced.  Now I know!  To my Generation Y friends… beware!

Emily Montoya was so cute as she taught the I Am Reaching Out class at Convention 2012 and I have the photos to share!

Oh, I just have to share that I love this last quote!  I definitely need to embrace this quote and push myself beyond my comfort zone.

Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012 – I Am A Leader

Convention 2012

I Am A Leader with Brian Pilling

So, what does Goldilocks and the Three Bears have to do with being a "Leader?" The very first class that I took at the Stampin' Up! Convention 2012 was called I Am a Leader…

Now, I've been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since March 23, 2009. When I signed up, I intended to be a "hobby demonstrator" with maybe a few sales here and there only to get me through the waiting period as we were on the wait list to adopt our first child. I never intended to be a leader… It was just me.  When I signed my first recruit, I really didn't know what to do. It was no longer just "me" but there was an "us!" I was now a LEADER! I've got to admit that I have not really perceived myself as a leader yet I am.

So, we all know that in Goldilocks & the Three Bears we have Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear. The way Brian Pilling talked about the three bears was to create an association of different leadership styles. All I can say, I have pretty much fallen under the "Mama Bear" leadership style trying to be all "mushy" and "soft." Not really taking any stance as to leading my downline but just trying to be a friend.

So, my goal is to become more like Baby Bear – the "Just" right leader! The goal is to influence my downline, ask questions and help them find the answers they need to GROW with Stampin' Up! For me it is about guiding and building on the strengths of my downline while maintaining balance in my life as a leader. This will be a balancing act between the Papa Bear and Mama Bear leadership style.

Ultimately, my goal is to see my downline GROW:

G = Grow: Asking what they want as a demonstrator

R = Reality: What is their current status quo and discussing their goals!

O = Options: Exploring together the options they have to grow their business… What does that look like? How are we going to accomplish their goals together?

W = Way Forward… Taking the step and moving forward.

If I were to write out all my thoughts this blog post would go on forever! So, I'm going to end here with a picture of Brian Pilling from Convention 2012…  Isn't he a cute Kitty!  Thanks Brian for a fun class at Convention 2012! I'm looking forward to Convention 2013!

Day 3 – 2012 Stampin’ Up! Convention

Oh, it was another fun day in Salt Lake City, UT with so many Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators sharing, swapping and laughing! We celebrated various successes and awards. Here is my Upline Terri Walker taking a walk across the stage for one of her several awards.

Day 2 Part 2 – Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012

Well, today was a busy day from an “early” morning start to a late evening. After the first General Session, we then went to our various classes! My first class to start with was I Am A Leader with Brian Pilling. Brian started out with the story of Goldie Locks and the Three bears… So at this point, I’m thinking where in the world is THIS going! Well, it ended up being a cute illustration that really worked well.

I wish I could adequately share his whole presentation but I couldn’t do it justice! For me, I personally summed it up that you have to find the medium ground between being a “Papa Bear” and “Mama Bear” with Baby Bear being just right! Papa Bear is the overbearing, dominating leader whereas the Mama Bear is the sweet, let’s be best bud’s type leader. Then, in the middle is Baby Bear which consists of a middle ground between them where you ask questions and help your downline fine the answers THEY need. You provide a balance of knowledge and encouragement while letting them find their way.

The “I Am a Leader” class was excellent and really started me thinking about how I am a leader along with how I can improve and become a better leader. The session ended challenging us to come up with one thing we were going to do different and how we were going to challenge our downline…

I’m really excited about building my downline, reaching out and becoming a better leader. Oh, and we can ALL be better leaders. Leadership comes in all forms and my goal is to be a “good” leader! Just so you know… I’m working on improving my leadership skills!

Here is a picture of Brian… Don’t you just LOVE the bright green shirt!

Day 2 – Stampin’ Up! 2012 Convention

I’m in the midst of Day 2 at the Stampin’ Up! 2012 Convention! This morning started very early with our first General Session. I have to say that I’m really loving the theme “I Am”… So, here is my first photo from the General Session:

20120719-143950.jpg

The best part of the first day and the first General Session has got to be the opening song. This song is written and performed by Stampin’ Up! Employees. It is totally amazing how awesome these songs and productions are. I really wish you could be here to experience convention! Here is another photo of the opening song:

The first session also included a brief word and welcome from Shelli followed by a really quick demonstration! Shelli is such a wonderful, loving and caring woman. She is so vibrant and really helps set the tone. Here is Shelli welcoming all the demonstrators to the 2012 Stampin’ Up! Convention.

20120719-144613.jpg

The highlight of the first General Session was a Guest Speaker. Jason Dorsey did a wonderful presentation about Generation Y as well as how each Generation relates to each other. He was SPOT on with his assessment and SOOOO funny! I loved what he had to share. I’m GenX and had to laugh especially as he was right on as I was typing my notes on my iPad.

Day 1: Stampin’ Up! 2012 Convention

I just finished Day 1 at the Stampin’ Up! Convention! It was a fun day.

The day started by picking up my wonderful bag. I love my Bag and here is a picture of it.

20120719-005718.jpg

Afterwards, I connected with my Upline, Terri Walker and a sideline, Vicki Soni. We then started off by going to Memento Mall where demonstrators go to buy Stampin’ Up! Themed items. My favorite items are the Reusable Grocery Bags, the t-shirt and men’s Polo for my husband. There are also lots of little trinkets to be found!

On Tuesday night, I participated in a Pajama swap with my roommates. I LOVE this picture of us wearing our matching Pajamas and T-Shirts with the saying “Our {Hearts} belong to Stampin’ Up!

Oh, I checked out the display boards for the Artisan Award top 20… I’m curious to find out who the Top 10 and new Artisan Design team will be especially as I have my definite favorites. In the meantime, I checked out the display boards and I was very excited to see the majority of my Artisan Award entries on display.

Here is the Butterfly Brooch that I submitted as one of my 3D items for the Artisan Award. It is Cherry Cobbler with the Flowering Flourishes stamped and heat embossed on the First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper. Then, I embellished attached to Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. The next step was to do Crystal Effects on the front, let dry overnight. Then I do crystal effects on the back and dry overnight followed by touch ups and additional dry time. I hope you like the first of my Artisan Award Entry projects with more to come.

Here is another photo of the butterfly brooch.

Oh, and I have a quick shout out to my former Downline, Jen Holland… Congratulations on the Birth of your Son! I can’t wait to meet him.

Stampin’ Up! Apothecary Art and Framelits

So, yesterday I shared a Product Review with you introducing the new Stampin' Up! Framelits Dies and today I'm sharing a card I created which features the Framelits Labels Collection.  It is with much anticipation and excitement that I introduce you to the…

Apothecary Art Stamp Set

The Apothecary Art Stamp Set is new from the 2012 Occasions Mini Catalog.  This card was made for the Stampin' Queen's Sketch Challenge #20 on January 4th.  (I've been a slacker not posting my challenge cards in a timely matter or at all but my goal is to change that this year but with the start of the New Year, traveling and getting home followed by a mad dash to clean the house before my parents arrived, I didn't get around to writing my blog post.)  I really love the look of "White-on-White" cards and new that is what I really wanted to accomplish with this card.

Now, at this time, I don't have a need for a Wedding card but hopefully I will in the future.  To make this card, I dry embossed the background layer using the Finial Press Textured Embossing Folder which was layered on top of my Whisper White card base.  Then I layered a piece of Organza Ribbon tied with a knot.

Next, I stamped my chosen image from the Apothecary Art Stamp Set and colored the flowers directly on the stamp with the Stampin' Write Markers using Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush and utilized the "huffing" technique or as I learned at the 2011 Stampin' Up! Convention to call it the "the Breathe of Life Technique."  The image along with a border were cut out when I used the Framelits Dies from the Labels Collection.  The banner was created using the Petal Cone Bigz L Die with the stamped sentiment from the new Loving Thoughts Stamp Set again found in the 2012 Occasions Mini Catalog.  Finally, all the pieces were layered together and placed on the card to create this elegant, Forever & Always card.

Tips and more from SunnyGirlScraps:

  • When creating a "white-on-white" card, texture helps create interest along with depth.
  • Use Dimensionals to help add additional depth to your layers.
  • A little bit of color really pops out and creates an elegant card especially with the white space surrounding the image.
  • Don't over embellish.
  • To color directly on a stamp, use "paint brush" tip of the Stampin' Write Markers.  After you are done coloring, gently "huff" then stamp your image.

To purchase your own set of these Framelits Dies or any of the products used to create this card, visit my 24/7 Stampin' Up! store by clicking HERE.

Don't forget…

If you like this card, please share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment. Also, don't be afraid to pin it to Pinterest!  I love hearing from all my readers and also encourage you to share my blog with your friends – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

Stampin’ Up! Halloween Treat Box

Trick of Treat

Personally, I prefer a Treat over a "trick!"  So, how about enjoying some cute eye candy with this special box…

Stampin' Up! Halloween Treat Box!

Big Shot Candy Wrapper DieIt's time for another Stampin' Up! Only Challenge.  The theme for this challenge is "treats."  Since Halloween is just around the corner, I opted to create a Halloween Treat Box.  This box can hold one large Candy Bar or two smaller Snack Size Candy Bars.

To create the box, I used a technique I learned at the 2011 Stampin' Up! Convention.  For the longer box, you use the Bigz L Candy Wrapper Die but fold the cardstock about 1 5/8" then carefully layer the folded portion over the center of the die so it doesn't get cut.  After you run everything through the Big Shot and unfold the folded section, you'll have a longer Candy Wrapper.

The bats were stamped all over the black cardstock then I used the Tangerine Tango embossing powder to make the bats "pop" on this Spooky treat box.  I used basic black grosgrain ribbon to tie the ends.  All stamped images come from the Wicked Cool stamp set which I received as a free stamp set when I attended the 2010 Stampin' Up! Convention.

Like this project? Please share your thoughts or questions by leaving me a comment. I love hearing from all my readers and also encourage you to share my blog with your friends – word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of flattery.

2011 Stampin’ Up! Convention – Day 1

Stampin' Up! Convention 2011

Grow

Stampin' Up! Riverton, UT Pick LineI safely arrived on Tuesday in Salt Lake City and stayed up extremely early working on my card swaps and 3D swap.  This year I'm actually staying in a home that 8 of us are renting and it is a TOTAL blast.  We had a wonderful BBQ on Tuesday night with homemade potato salad, beef tip, hamburgers and hot dogs followed by Root Beer Floats for desert.  It has been so fun meeting and getting to know these wonderful ladies.  The best feature is the money that we are saving by not having the Hotel and eating out expenses.

On Wednesday, it was a fun day starting with the retrieval of our Convention Bag!  This years convention bag is awesomeness.  The bag is the demonstrator bag but with beautiful embroidery on the front of the bag with a pretty green lining.  In addition, we also received a wonderful binder along with tabs and another free catalog AND project instructions to all fit within the binder.  The Binder is probably one of my favorite items.  My downline Jen and I along with our housemates then went to the Stampin' Up! home office in Riverton, UT for a tour.  To the right is a photo of the Pick Line at the Riverton, UT Distribution Center.  It is really impressive to see how products are packed, weighed based on product to insure accuracy then sent to quality control if the weight on the box is "off" from the expected weight based on the products purchased.  Here I am at the entrance to the Stampin' Up! headquarters in Riverton, UT.  I love these signs and the view is gorgeous.

Stampin' Up! Riverton, UT Tour

Today started out bright and early with our first General Session where Stampin' Up! did a sneak peak review of the upcoming 2011 Holiday Mini followed by the "BIG" reveal!  I'm so excited about this new product which is a Stampin' Up! Exclusive.  Well, actually there are two items I'm REALLY excited about but the "BIG" item is that Stampin' Up! will now be offering the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  This is an awesome scoring board!  It is 1/8" increments with a really nice metal stylus for scoring.  It has two rulers – the standard ruler and a centering ruler.  In addition, it has a wonderful feature that allows you to "place" markers making it easy to score projects.  The second item I'm really excited about are "food" stamps.  In early October, Stampin' Up! will be offering a special style stamp kit which allows you to stamp "cookies" before baking creating a great image.  These would also work on chocolates and I'm certain many ideas will start popping up all over the internet.

So, this morning, they introduced to new "recognition walks!"  The one walk is for first time attendees at convention and the second walk is for those that have recruited in the past year.  It was so much fun to be able to do the walk with my downline, Jen, as we both had recruits this past year.  Here are Jen and I in line for our recognition walk onto the stage.

Now, I would REALLY LOVE to have you join my team and be with me in Salt Lake City, UT for the 2012 Stampin' Up! Convention.  Currently, Stampin' Up! is offering a great recruiting package for $99.00 which is available until July 31, 2011.  In addition, they are including a really great Christmas Box project with the recruiting kit which is a $40.00 benefit.  To join my team and become a demonstrator, click HERE!
